Description Espichel, Sessimbra, Portugal, May 25, 2009 - The Cabo Espichel lighthouse in Portugal. The Cabo Espichel lighthouse was built in 1790. To produce its light, first, in 1865, it was fueled by olive oil, then, in 1886, fueled by petrol vapor and electrical power came only in 1926. Its lighting capacity varied from 48 km (26 nautical miles) to the actual 67 km (36 nautical miles), now with a dioptic glass with a 3m focal distance. The masonry hexagonal structure is 32m (105 ft) high and it stands 168m (551 ft) above sea level.
